Mike Cranny was born in Liverpool, England and grew up in Ontario, Canada. Before taking degrees in history, anthropology and archaeology, he worked as a zookeeper, a psychiatric ward attendant, auto partsman, shipper, truck driver, apple picker, pallet nailer, and waiter on trains. Later, he participated in archaeological projects in British Columbia and the southwestern United States. He also taught high school in Northern British Columbia and wrote a series of history textbooks. Mike is married and lives in Victoria, British Columbia.
